Telluride Family

Telluride, Colorado

A name that comes from the phrase “To Hell You Ride” explains how hard the journey was to get to this mountain town nestled between the mountains. Well, it’s pretty easy to get there now! Travel Modern specializes in mountain town family vacations and we love taking these trips ourselves!

Telluride, Colorado

My family is hooked on mountain towns! By July, the Alabama heat has us packing to go out west, experience mountain life, and reconnect with the outdoors. Summer of 2022, we flew into Montrose airport (the closest airport to Telluride) and rented a car for a 2-week stay.

Staying At The The Madeline Hotel

Our first stop was at Hotel Madeline, an AuBerge Resort in Mountain Village. Mountain Village is the main base area for Telluride, where concerts are held, and there are a handful of dining and bar options. The Madeline has a warm, home-like atmosphere. The lobby area has a game room for families to unwind.  The rooftop pool is a great spot to hang out in the afternoon overlooking the mountains. The Madeline also has residences to suit families that need more space than a standard hotel room.  If you are looking into a Madeline Residence, you definitely want to reach out to our team for placement in residence, as some are newer than others, and we have the scoop!

Staying In Downtown Telluride

For the second part of our vacation, we stayed in Telluride proper. It was fun to stay downtown and on The Mountain to see the differences. My kids participated in Telluride Academy, which offers some excellent summer programming, including belaying, tennis, mountain biking & more. Telluride mountain also provides wonderful kids’ summer camp programming, such as the Kids Scavenger Hunt that goes all over the city, Mountain Biking, Water Day & more.
