What It’s Like to Stay at The Best Hotel in the World

Luxury hotel Passalacua on beautiful Lake Como was recently named the #1 Hotel in the World by The World’s 50 Best.  But you see, the family who owns and runs this hotel is not new to the hotel industry.  They are the longtime owners of the legendary Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Passalacqua’s sister property.  There are many luxury hotels in Italy and many on Lake Como.  There is a lot of competition for this achievement, and it’s clear what sets Passalacqua apart.  

A Timeless Boutique Experience

This is a Luxe Boutique property on Lake Como in a house built in 1787. Passalacqua has just 24 rooms across 3 buildings on the property. Standing proudly in the quaint lakeside village of Moltrasio just fifteen minutes from Como town. Once I landed in Milan, it was only a 45-minute drive to Passalacqua. Upon entering the gates, one can’t help but wonder if this one stop in Italy would be enough to jet across the Atlantic. Passalacqua is a destination in itself! Fit for a King and Queen, the gorgeous grounds of this hotel are so meticulously groomed it would make any landscape architect swoon.  

Exploring The Estate

Upon arrival, I was taken on a tour of the beautiful property.  I was able to see the various room types: the Grand Villa, the ancient Palazz, and the romantic Casa al Lago.  In the Bellini Suite, which is the largest Suite on the property, I was greeted by 2 story ceilings with hand-picked chandeliers and a grand piano. The Bellini Suite is practically a villa within a villa.  

In the courtyard, I was lucky enough to take part in a class with the in-house florist.  Learning the care and beauty it takes to make the gorgeous floral arrangements delivered to each room. 

Antique And Modern Comfort

For design lovers, and especially antique lovers, each room is thoughtfully curated with precious pieces.  It’s hard to imagine that a more grand hotel room could exist.  My room was the Beatrice Suite in the Main Villa with a lake view. It’s difficult to articulate the beauty and grandeur of this hotel room. The chandelier, the antiques, and the traditional Italian touches were met with modern amenities.  Staying in the Beatrice Suite is, quite simply, sleeping in a palace! In the bathroom, the Dyson hairdryer and straightening iron are all housed in Passalacqua branded leather boxes. In the bedroom, a flat-screen TV that rises and falls with the touch of a button- and is concealed in a beautiful trunk. 

Delicious Dining

Let’s get to my favorite part- the food! The unique approach to dining invites guests to enjoy Italian delicacies when, where, and just the way they like. A variety of relaxed dining spaces indoors and out for a farm-to-table exclusive experience. Whether relaxing in the library, in the formal dining room, or outdoors overlooking Lake Como, there’s a perfect setting for every meal.  Clients are even welcome to the grand kitchen, making it feel like home.
