Traveling with little ones can be complicated and overwhelming! No matter how many times you travel with your little mini-Me’s, you can face new challenges, and making sure everything is family-friendly can be stressful. At Travel Modern, a travel agency in Mountain Brook, we love helping families figure out how to have hassle-free and memorable family vacations!

Top Caribbean Islands For Families

While the Caribbean is lovely for couples’ and girls’ trips, they can also be a lot of fun for families with children of different ages. Setting your family up for success includes figuring out which island best suits your family’s vacation needs. We’ve compiled a little list of some of our top Caribbean Islands for Families to enjoy! If you don’t see one you’re curious about, reach out to us and we’ll be glad to help you figure out how compatible it is for your family. Without further ado, let’s get to the Islands!

The Bahamas

The Bahamas are super popular for family trips. This tropical destination has fun for kids of all kinds. Whether they prefer lying on beaches or having adventures on waterslides, you’ll find something they’ll love. With nearly 700 islands, the Bahamas has a mix of popular tourist destinations like New Providence and more relaxed off-grid areas like the Exuma islands.

For the New Providence Island, we recommend Nassau. This is one of the most accessible destinations for families flying in from the U.S. It’s famous for its mega-resorts (think the Atlantis and Baha Mar) and amazing cuisine. This can be a quick getaway for young families with a baby, or a full week’s vacation for families with older kids when combined with the Out Islands.

Speaking of the Out Islands, we recommend checking out the Exumas, Andros, or Harbour Island. If you’re from Mountain Brook or anywhere else in Alabama, you can drive over to Atlanta for a direct flight to these destinations! These islands are great for families that want a relaxing trip with long, uncrowded beaches, hidden coves, natural wonders, and beautiful blue water for as far as you can see. We think your kids will gain a greater appreciation for nature and peace on the Out Islands.

U.S. Virgin Islands

One of the best things about traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands with children is that you don’t need a passport to get there. You may need proof of citizenship to get back to the mainland, but a valid driver’s license will work perfectly well. This is another set of islands that has direct flights from many U.S. cities so that also makes it easier to travel with children.

St. Thomas would be an incredibly fun island to visit with active older children. With activities like beach-hopping, island-hopping, snorkeling, hiking, and ziplining, they will have an absolute blast seeing the beauty of the island while getting all their energy out (so hopefully parents can have a quiet moment to themselves at night). St. Thomas is also a great island to stay on if you want to check out the other Virgin Islands like St. John.

St. John is a short 20-minute ferry ride from St. Thomas. This gorgeous island is comprised of around 60% National Park! This Island is great for multi-generational villa rentals if you’re also bringing along grandparents and grandkids. With a walkable town, hiking opportunities, and sea turtle sightings while snorkeling, your family will enjoy the wonders of the great outdoors.

Cayman Islands

Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach has calm waters, English-speaking restaurants, shops, and lodgings. This is a great destination for your toddler! Build sandcastles, enjoy the calm seas and gentle beach, and take a quick dip in the crystal-clear blue water. The Cayman Islands offer all your regular homey comforts, so if you’re not really looking to go off-grid with the kids, then this is a solid option. Older kids can also enjoy the peace and quiet, or they can get a little more adventurous by swimming with stingrays, visiting the Cayman Turtle Centre, and spotting starfish at Starfish Point. Lots of diverse options here, but the Cayman Islands do lean more towards tranquil getaways.

Jamaica

Jamaica is another excellent choice for a family vacation in the Caribbean. This vibrant island offers a mix of relaxation and adventure that caters to both parents and children. For luxurious stays, consider Half Moon Resort, Round Hill, or Tryall. These top-notch resorts provide a variety of family-friendly amenities and activities.

Half Moon Resort is perfect for families looking for a mix of leisure and fun, with its private beach, equestrian center, and extensive kids’ program. Round Hill offers a more intimate setting with its charming villas and engaging children’s activities, including nature walks and crafts. Tryall Club is a haven for active families, featuring golf, tennis, and a range of water sports.

Beyond the resorts, Jamaica’s rich culture and natural beauty provide endless opportunities for exploration. Families can enjoy visiting Dunn’s River Falls, the famous Blue Hole, and the vibrant local markets. Whether you’re lounging on the beach, exploring the lush landscapes, or immersing yourself in Jamaican culture, this island offers a memorable experience for all ages.
